Preseason Game #2 – ICE 3 Brandon 1
September 10, 2022 – Western Hockey League (WHL) – Winnipeg Ice News Release
17 year old forward Zach Benson had a goal and two assists to lead the Winnipeg ICE to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings Saturday night in WHL preseason action.
Matthew Henry opened the scoring for the second straight game for Brandon, however after that ICE goaltender Keegan Maddocks made 17 consecutive saves to backstop Winnipeg to their first win of the preseason.
Chase Bambrick tied the game in the second period for the ICE with a power play goal. Benson scored the game winner with 3:54 remaining in regulation time. Evan Friesen put the game on ice with an empty netter.
Winnipeg out shot Brandon 26-19. Ethan Eskit suffered the loss in goal.
The ICE were 1/4 on the power play while the Wheat Kings went 0/7.
Winnipeg concludes the preseason schedule with a pair of games versus the Regina Pats (Thursday in Regina, Saturday at The RINK Training Centre, 7pm)
