Medicine Hat, AB – Forward Jake Poole scored three goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead the Victoria Royals to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday night.

Victoria entered the third trailing 2-0, but would use three third period goals – two coming off the stick of Poole – to force an overtime period where they would seal the win.

It was the second hat trick of the season, and second within a week, for the McAuley, MB product, who scored three times in a game against the Vancouver Giants last Saturday night. He leads the team with 13 points on eight goals and five assists on the season.

The Royals also benefited from the effort of goaltender Tyler Palmer, who stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced in the victory.

Forward Andrew Basha was the top points-getter for Medicine Hat, recording two assists, while starting goaltender Evan May made 21 saves on 25 stops.

Medicine Hat (4-6-2-0) forward Oasiz Weisblatt (6) would open the scoring at the 5:31 mark of the second period after the first 20 minutes passed without a goal from either side.

The Tigers’ lead would be increased to 2-0 near the end of the frame following a goal by forward Pavel Bocharov (3) at 18:24 of the period.

However, Victoria (3-10-2-0) would take the momentum back in the third where forward Jake Poole (6) would score his first of the night to cut the lead to 2-1 at the 10:16 mark. Matthew Hodson would count the lone assist on the goal.

Royals’ forward Riley Gannon would then tie the game at 2-2 with his third of the year at the 12:21 mark of the third, with forward Tanner Scott and defenceman Justin Kipkie collecting the assists.

Jake Poole (7) would then make it three straight for Victoria with the go-ahead marker – his second of the night – at 15:06, giving the Royals a 3-2 lead late in regulation. The goal was assisted by forward Teague Patton.

However, the Tigers would not go quietly, with forward Dallen Melin stabbing in the game-tying goal at 19:11 to cap a wild third period of play and force overtime.

It would once again be Jake Poole (8) playing the hero in the extra frame, scoring the game-winner and completing the hat trick at 1:28 of the overtime period and handing Victoria the drastic 4-3 overtime victory.

Defenceman Kalem Parker picked up a point with an assist on the game-winner, giving him four points over his last two games.

Looking ahead, Medicine Hat will remain at home this week as they play host to the Vancouver Giants on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at Co-Op Place.

Meanwhile, the Royals will travel to Lethbridge for their next stop on their Eastern Conference road trip where they will take on the Hurricanes for a contest beginning at 6 pm PDT on Tuesday, Nov.1.

The next set of Royals home games will be on Nov. 11 and 12 against the Portland Winterhawks. Tickets can be purchased at selectyourtickets.com.
