Phoenix Rising FC Picks up 2023 Option on Gabriel Torres
November 3, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – Phoenix Rising FC News Release
PHOENIX, Arizona – Phoenix Rising FC has picked up the club option on the contract of Gabriel Torres for the 2023 season, the club announced today.
“Gabi showed the class he brings on and off the pitch in his short tenure here this season,” said Rising head coach Juan Guerra. “He was a late season spark for the club. I cannot wait to see what he can do here in Phoenix over the course of a full season.”
Acquired from FC Tulsa on September 23, Torres started his first match for Rising just five days later, helping Phoenix secure a 1-0, shutout win in Sacramento. The Brazilian scored just two minutes into his first home match for Rising, an eventual 5-1 victory against Red Bull New York II on October 1 in which Torres also earned a penalty kick. He continued his hot streak in the final two matches of the season, scoring in a 2-1 loss at Rio Grande Valley on October 8. Torres had a goal and an assist in the last match of the season, a 3-1 win against Atlanta United 2 on October 15.
Prior to joining Phoenix, Torres appeared in 23 matches for FC Tulsa. He finished his 2022 campaign with four goals and five assists in just over 1,900 minutes. Torres joined FC Tulsa in January after two seasons with Hartford Athletic. He registered five assists and 24 chances created for Hartford in 29 appearances during the 2021 season. Torres is a product of the University of the District of Columbia, where he recorded 34 goals and 21 assists in 55 appearances.
