PHF Montreal Named Force and Unveil New Logo and Jersey

MONTREAL, QC – The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) in association with its new Montreal expansion franchise, has unveiled the team’s name, logo, and jerseys for their historic 2022-23 season. The Montreal Force, a name symbolic of the team’s energy and commitment to strength of character, community impact, and on ice ferocity, is officially the new identity of the league’s seventh team. The Force brand is maroon, black, and white, with a primary logo shaped letter ‘F’ that features a fleur-de-lis embedded in the crest and is emblematic of the province of Quebec.
“We wanted a powerful name to distinguish ourselves in this amazing hockey market and represent who we are across the women’s sports landscape,” said Kevin Raphaël, Team President. “We are a force, both on and off the ice, with strong and confident women who will showcase their strength in all facets from competition to community involvement. We are a family of difference makers and role models who will make our province proud.”
The Force will carry three uniform sets that include maroon with white stripes, black with maroon stripes, and white with maroon stripes. Each design features the primary Force logo crest, however each kit has a unique fleur-de-lis pattern. The Quebec symbol will also serve as a shoulder patch on one side, opposite a Montreal Force wordmark on the other. The top of the Force crest resembles an arrow that embodies the forward momentum for professional women’s hockey in the province. The color maroon is part of Montreal’s rich hockey history. Fans will also recognize the PHF branding consistently presented above the crest, featuring the league logo situated inside a maple leaf outline which is a dedicated emblem for Canadian teams like the Force and Toronto Six. The primary Force logo was produced by PHF graphic designers Lucas Daitchman and Brendan Poe, while the surrounding brand concept and jersey designs came from Elliot Gerard, Head of Creative at HEARTLENT Group.
“The work ethic and winning mindset of the Montreal franchise during this offseason in preparation for their official entry into the 2022-23 season confirms this team will truly be a ‘Force’ in the PHF,” said Reagan Carey, PHF Commissioner. “That all starts with the energy and passion from Kevin Raphaël and his team, right through to the players who have committed to the PHF, and the positive support that’s being generated across the province of Quebec. Introducing the Montreal Force is a big step forward for the organization and the PHF as we continue building our new era with historic growth. We can’t wait for the puck to drop and to see the Force in action.”
As part of their inaugural season celebrations, the Force will play home games across the province of Quebec and are targeting seven different communities for pre-season and regular season action. The Force is excited to announce that Montreal, Gatineau, Québec, Rimouski, Rivière-du-Loup, Saint-Jérôme, and Sept-Îles are among the hosts in consideration for the 2022-23 season. Dates will be confirmed when the full PHF regular season schedule is announced in early September. Centre 21.02, the first and only recognized High Performance Hockey Center for women athletes in Canada, will serve as the primary training home for the Force.
“Together with my teammates, we are all very excited and proud to make history as members of the Montreal Force,” said forward Ann-Sophie Bettez. “Putting the jersey on for the first time was a special feeling I will never forget. We are all very motivated for this season to showcase what we can do in the PHF and to represent Quebec while connecting with fans in communities all over the province.”
Bettez is one of 16 players who have signed contracts to play in the upcoming campaign. She headlines a list of forwards that also includes Kim Deschênes, Jade Downie-Landry, Catherine Dubois, Alyssa Holmes, Samantha Isbell, Alexandra Labelle, Sarah Lefort, Kristina Shanahan, and Brooke Stacey, defenders Catherine Daoust, Christine Deaudelin, Kaity Howarth, and Brigitte Laganière, plus goaltenders Tricia Deguire and Marie-Soleil Deschênes. The rest of the roster as well as the coaching staff will be announced in the coming weeks.
The PHF and ESPN recently announced a two-year agreement that features exclusive coverage of the PHF regular season, special events, and the Isobel Cup Playoffs streaming live in the United States on ESPN+, with international rights for games which includes TSN in Canada.
