PHF Montreal Announces Four More Signed Players

MONTREAL, QC – The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) in association with the new Montreal expansion team, has announced four more players who have officially signed contracts for the club’s inaugural 2022-23 season. New additions to the historic roster are forward Catherine Dubois, defenders Catherine Daoust and Christine Deaudelin, and goaltender Tricia Deguire who will all make their PHF debuts when the puck drops this fall.
The Montreal roster now stands at 11 players who have committed to the PHF, with the latest group following last week’s announcement of the team’s first seven signings that included forwards Ann-Sophie Bettez, Kim Deschênes, Jade Downie-Landry, Alexandra Labelle, Sarah Lefort, and Kristina Shanahan, plus defender Brigitte Laganière. The group collectively blends professional and collegiate experience, and builds depth at every position.
“As we continue moving full steam ahead with our preparations for the 2022-23 season, I’m happy to officially welcome our new players to PHF Montreal,” said Kevin Raphaël, Team President. “This group provides our roster with both youth and veterans who will bring the right mix of energy and reliability to help us reach our goals as a team, and represent the province of Quebec the right way. I believe these players are going to open a lot of eyes around the world of professional women’s hockey, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what they are capable of as they take the PHF by storm.”
Daoust has been playing professional women’s hockey the past four years, including the last three as a member of the PWHPA in Montreal. She also teamed with Bettez, Deschênes, and Lefort with the CWHL’s Montreal Canadiennes during the 2018-19 season, recording five points in 27 games. Before turning pro, the 27-year-old defender from L’Île-Bizard, Quebec played four seasons at the University of Minnesota-Duluth from 2014-18, serving as an alternate captain her senior year where she produced a career-high 13 points in 35 games. Her experience also includes representing Canada at the 2013 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship where she won gold.
Deaudelin joins the PHF following an impressive U SPORTS career as one of the most accomplished defenders ever to play for the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees. The 25-year-old from Beloeil, Quebec graduates with the most regular season points by a blue liner in program history, recording 41 over 72 games from 2017-22. Her collegiate accolades include 2017-18 U SPORTS All-Rookie Team, RSEQ All-Rookie Team and Second Team All-Star, a two-time U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian in 2019-20 and 2020-21, and a two-time RSEQ conference First Team All-Star in 2019-20, and most recently in 2021-22 while serving as her team’s captain.
Deguire is another decorated U SPORTS graduate who joins Montreal after spending the last six years between-the-pipes for McGill University. The 24-year-old from Sherbrooke, Quebec was a teammate of Downie-Landry, and won 90 total games for the Martlets. During the most recent 2021-22 season she posted an impressive 2.01 goals-against-average and .929 save percentage across all competition. Her collegiate career began with U SPORTS Rookie of the Year and national All-Rookie Team honors in 2016-17, followed by U SPORTS Second Team All-Star recognition in 2018-19, and three career placements as a RSEQ First Team All-Star for performances in 2016-17, 2018-19, and 2021-22.
Dubois is a 27-year-old from Quebec who has spent the past two seasons as a member of the PWHPA. She was teammates with Labelle for the duration of her five-year U SPORTS career at the University of Montreal from 2015-20, highlighted by a 2016 national championship with the Carabins. The forward recorded 62 points in 94 collegiate games, and has won two gold medals with Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team. Her victory in 2012 was alongside Lefort, and in 2013 she played with Daoust and tied for the team lead in scoring with seven points in five games, earning recognition as one of the team’s top-three players.
All four players have chosen not to disclose salary terms of their contracts.
Additional Montreal player signings are expected over the coming weeks, along with the unveiling of an official team name and logo.
