Pats Complete Comeback Versus Broncos in Estevan

Regina, Sask. – The Regina Pats defeated the Swift Current Broncos 4-2 at Affinity Place in Estevan, Sask.

The Pats trailed 2-0 after one, scoring four unanswered goals between the second and third period. Connor Bedard scored the tying and game-winning goal, while Corban Almen and Borya Valis had the other goals for the Pats. The Pats improve to 2-1 on the pre-season with two games left, while the Broncos go to 2-1 as well.

THE GOALS

First Period

Broncos 1-0 at 13:46 – Ty Hurley (1) assisted Maddix McCagherty and Luke Mistelbacher // McCagherty won a puck battle below the Regina net and centered it in front to Hurley who snapped a one-timer home.

Broncos 2-0 at 15:26 – Brady Birnie (3) assisted Grayson Burzynski and Rylan Gould // Brady Bernie scored with a near impossible shot from the bottom of the left circle, as he whistled a wrister into the top left corner, short side on Koen MacInnes.

Second Period

Pats 1-2 at 7:34 – Corban Almen (1) assisted by Matt Smith // Smith’s shot to the net was blocked with traffic in front, but Almen pounced on the rebound and backhanded it home to get the Pats back in it.

Pats 2-2 at 9:47 – Connor Bedard (3) unassisted // Short-handed, Bedard poked the puck to centre, raced over the blueline, and snapped a shot over the shoulder of Berney Weston while drifting towards the left boards with a defenceman on him.

Third Period

Pats 3-2 at 0:51 – Connor Bedard (4), assisted by Tye Spencer and Jaxsin Vaughan // The Pats completed the comeback on the power play as Bedard ripped a one-timer from the high point into the top corner.

Pats 4-2 at 18:13 – Borya Valis (4) Matteo Michels and Luke Bateman // Michels ripped a snap shot off the goaltenders mask, and Valis cleaned up the rebound to put the game away.

Goalies:

Pats: Koen MacInnes made 25 saves on 27 shots (40:00), and Drew Sim made 10 saves on 10 shots.

Broncos: Joey Rocha allowed two goals on 18 shots and Berney Weston let in two goals on 21 shots.

The Pats have two more pre-season games coming up, as they’ll host the Winnipeg ICE on Thursday before wrapping up their pre-season schedule on Saturday in Winnipeg. The Pats home opener is September 23 against the Moose Jaw Warriors.
