Panthers Sign Defensive Lineman Kyree Campbell
October 20, 2022 – Indoor Football League (IFL) – Bay Area Panthers News Release
Defensive lineman Kyree Campbell welcomes the challenge of turning around a team that has struggled.
“My whole life has been part of a building program. We were 1-10 in high school before I got there and at Florida, we got it going with Dan Mullen (29-9 with two New Year’s Six Bowl wins and an SEC Championship appearance in his first three years).
Campbell is expected to be a huge addition to the Panthers’ defensive line as a restricted free agent after playing seven games last season for the Green Bay Blizzard.
“He’s what you’d expect from an SEC defensive lineman,” said Head Coach Darren Arbet. “Physical with great hands and a lot power in the middle. He can really run.”
Campbell started three seasons for the Gators with an NFL scout saying he was impressed by Campbell’s “upper-body turn and flexibility” along with being a good tackle finisher.
The late-bloomer didn’t start playing football until his sophomore year in high school and fell in love with the sport his junior year when he recorded 17 sacks.
Campbell is committed to making a huge impact after a complete body transformation.
“I was 350 (pounds) when I went to college and dropped to 295 for my sophomore and junior years,” said Campbell. “I was 315 for my first IFL season-not the best shape to dominate.”
Campbell is now listed at 295 and says he’s doing everything right to be a professional.
When not watching football, Campbell is passionate about cooking and devotes his TV viewing to anything connected to renowned chef Gordon Ramsay.
“I’m an extraordinary chef,” said Campbell. “Not just good. I’m great.”
Although there are numerous menu possibilities, Campbell says his go-to dish is stuffed chicken breast, inspired by watching his mother and grandmother in the kitchen.
The Panthers are banking on Campbell to get things cooking on the defensive line and bring the heat.
