One Final Regular Season Game at Stade Saputo this Saturday

September 30, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS)Club de Foot Montreal News Release

MONTREAL – Following a two-week international break, CF Montréal (18-9-5) prepares to host D.C. United (7-19-6) on Saturday night in its final regular season home game at Stade Saputo. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm (TVA Sports, TSN, BPM Sports, TSN 690).

This fixture will also serve as the annual 12th Player Celebration Match in recognition and celebration of the contribution of the Club’s supporters throughout the 2022 season.

The match will be accompanied by a multitude of on-site festivities to highlight the continued support of the Club’s 12th player through a record-breaking season that saw CF Montréal qualify for the playoffs and finish at least second in the Eastern Conference, a first in the Club’s history.

With two games remaining on the schedule, 59 points and a guaranteed second-place finish in the East, CF Montréal also remains in the running for the Supporter’s Shield alongside the Philadelphia Union and Los Angeles FC.

Wilfried Nancy’s men will face D.C. for a second time in 2022, after initially defeating their opponents on July 23 by a score of 2-1 at Audi Field.

While Montreal will have many key players back from international duty, including Alistair Johnston, Ismaël Koné, Kamal Miller, Samuel Piette, Romell Quioto, Robert Thorkelsson and Joel Waterman, the Club will also have to cope without the services of Djordje Mihailovic, who is suspended due to yellow card accumulation. Midfielder Lassi Lappalainen, on the other hand, will be available again after recovering from an injury.

Wayne Rooney’s team will be looking to avoid a 20th defeat this season. D.C., in last place in the East, suffered a 3-2 stoppage time loss on September 18, falling to a late Gonzalo Higuain strike.

Following this match, CF Montréal will head to Florida close out its regular season on October 9 on MLS Decision Day against Inter Miami CF at 2:30 pm at DRV PNK Stadium (TVA Sports, TSN, BPM Sports, TSN 690), before turning its attention to the 2022 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.
