Oil Kings Dropped by Rebels
October 30, 2022 – Western Hockey League (WHL) – Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB – The Edmonton Oil Kings got off to a strong start on Sunday afternoon, but a rocky second period led to a decisive Red Deer Rebels win at Roger Place.
A back-and-forth first period saw the Oil Kings grab a pair of one goal leads only to have the Rebels answer each time.
Cole Miller staked Edmonton to an early 1-0 lead after he danced around a Red Deer defender in the left-circle, walked to the middle of the ice and snapped a shot over the glove of Rhett Stoesser.
At the 10:57 mark, Hunter Mayo levelled the scoring after Talon Brigley found him with a cross-ice pass on a three-on-two rush and he ripped a shot to the back of the Oil Kings cage from the right-circle.
Carson Golder restored the Edmonton lead with a power play marker at 13:07 of the opening 20 after he was able to stuff home a wrap-around on his backhand after Dawson Seitz jarred a puck loose for him down below the goal line.
Kai Uchacz snagged a power play goal of his own late in the first period to send the teams into the intermission locked in a two-all draw.
In the second period, the Rebels struck five times to grab a 7-2 lead after 40 minutes of play with Christoffer Sedoff, Escalus Burlock, Craig Armstrong, Mayo for a second time and Frantisek Formanek doing the damage.
In the third period, the offence would dry up for both teams as the Rebels skated to the 7-2 win.
Alex Worthington (18/25) and Kolby Hay (9/9) combined for 27 saves for the Oil Kings, while Stoesser turned in 23 saves for the Rebels. Edmonton went 1-for-12 on the power play, the Rebels were 2-for-2.
