Oil Kings Downed in Prince Albert

October 2, 2022 – Western Hockey League (WHL)Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Prince Albert, SK – The Edmonton Oil Kings fell 5-1 to the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday night at the Art Hauser Centre to kickoff their 6-game road trip.

The Oil Kings came out with plenty of jump off the opening faceoff but despite holding an early 6-3 shot advantage, they were unable to solve Prince Albert goaltender Tikhon Chaika.

The Raiders opened the scoring at the 7:28 mark of the first period, which subsequently opened the floodgates as they would score three times in a span of 2:24.

First, Cole Peardon converted his first career WHL goal on a two-on-one rush setup from Dallyn Peekeekoot, followed by a Keaton Sorenson breakaway goal and a perfect net-front tip goal from Anton Yatsyshin.

Before the period was out, Sorenson would bury his second of the night on a Raider power play to give the home side a 4-0 lead at the first intermission.

In the second period, the Raiders looked to build on their lead firing 14 shots the way of Alex Worthington, but the first-year Edmonton netminder had the answer for each of them.

The Oil Kings got on the board while shorthanded with just 3:28 left in the second after Marshall Finnie stole a puck at his own blueline, raced the length of the ice, and used a Prince Albert defenceman as a screen as he fired home his first career WHL goal from the top of the right circle.

In the third period, the only offence would be a Raiders power play goal from Ryder Ritchie to give Prince Albert the 4-goal decision.

Worthington and Kolby Hay combined for 28 saves for the Oil Kings, while Chaika made 24 stops for the Raiders. Edmonton went 0-for-4 on the power play, Prince Albert was 2-for-6.

Next up, the Oil Kings head out on their U.S. Division road trip starting Friday, October 7 in Spokane when take on the Chiefs at 8:05 P.M. MT. You can listen to every Oil Kings game live at oilkings.ca/radio.
