NWSL Announces August Player of the Month

 National Women's Soccer League

September 7, 2022 – National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) News Release

NEW YORK –  The National Women’s Soccer League announced today that OL Reign forward Megan Rapinoe has been named the Player of the Month for the month of August by the NWSL Media Association.

Leading the league in scoring with four goals and three assists, Rapinoe was electric offensively for OL Reign, helping the team to a 2-1-1 record in August.

After opening her scoring campaign with an assist in the Reign’s 1-1 tie against Racing Louisville FC, Rapinoe tallied the lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Houston before notching a brace in the team’s 4-1 rout of NJ/NY Gotham FC.

The California native finished off her impressive month with both an assist and the stoppage time, game-winning goal in a 2-1 comeback win over the Orlando Pride. Her performance against the Pride earned her Player of the Month honors for the fourth time in her career, tying Kim Little for the all-time league record.

The NWSL Player of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
