October 27, 2022 – United States Hockey League (USHL)Sioux City Musketeers News Release

Desiree Breuer, daughter of Nick and Carmen Breuer of Merrill, has been named the November 5th Hot Shot. She is a junior at Le Mars Community High School. Desiree enjoys marching band and FFA and can often be found working on the family farm. She would love to pursue a career in medical field, specifically cardiology.

Desiree is medically complex involving the care of many specialists, locally she works with her pediatrician Dr. Jolene Meis and therapy team on several medical conditions including ADHD, anxiety, depression, IBS and insomnia. In the last few years, she has been dealing with dysautonomia. Dysautonomia is a dysfunction of the nerves that regulate nonvoluntary body functions including heart rate, blood pressure, and sweating. There are approximately 15 forms of dysautonomia, Desiree has been diagnosed with Vasovagal Syncope (VVS). Patients with VVS experience fainting at undetermined intervals. While there are some symptoms that may preclude a fainting episode, patients are unable to stop its progress. In most cases, patients are unconscious for 1 – 2 minutes and full recovery may take minutes to hours. Patient often experience intense fatigue following this episode. Many patients also experience GI issues like cramping, nausea and pain and general blood flow issues. Education, knowing your triggers and increasing fluid and salt intake can be helpful in managing VVS.

Please join us in celebrating Desiree, our November Hot Shot!

The Sioux City Musketeers, in partnership with Floyd Valley Healthcare (FVH) began the Hot Shots program in 2018. This program was created with the goal of honoring FVH pediatric patients who have chronic health issues. We are excited to give children an opportunity to have a fun time with their family, cheer on the team and just enjoy being a kid for a night.
