Northeast Generals Win 4-3

(Lewiston, Maine) – The Northeast Generals took to the road for the second leg of a weekend home and home series against East Division rival the Maine Nordiques. Jake LaRusso continued his strong play recording three points in the 4-3 win.
With the win Northeast Returns to .500 at 5-5 while the Nordiques continue to look for answers falling to 1-5 this season.
The Nordiques opened the scoring 4:16 into the game. Filip Wiberg forced a turnover in the right corner of the Generals zone and found Kellen Murphy in the bottom area of the slot. Murphy danced around a defender and moved across the front of the crease and flipped it over the outstretched pad of Toby Hopp.
Moments later at 5:51 the Generals tied it thanks to Jared Scott. The Kenosha, WI native was sprung on a breakaway and chose the bottom right corner for his third goal of the season. The goal tied the game 1-1 where it stood going into the first intermission.
Just over four minutes into the second period the Generals took the lead. Jake LaRusso carried the puck into the offensive zone on the right side and stopped halfway down the wall. LaRusso found Joe Schubert on the near side of the net who took a shot on net then sent the rebound to Joey McGraw in front. McGraw banged it home for his first goal of the year and the 2-1 lead.
The lead grew to 3-1 at 6:54 of the second period while the Generals were on the powerplay. LaRusso picked up the puck in the left side corner of the zone and threw it across the ice to Dave Andreychuck who beat Kael Depape with a one rime blast to the bottom corner of the net.
Henrik Hallberg brought the game back to within one at the 10:20 mark while the Nordiques were on a powerplay of their own. Patrick Schmiedlin took a shot from the top of the left circle that was blocked and Hallberg followed up with a shot from the other circle into the top of the net.
Only 20 seconds later the Nordiques tied the game back up. Oliver Genest found possession of the puck below the goal line and pushed the puck into the slot for Laurent Trepanier to beat Hopp for his third goal of the season.
LaRusso broke the tie 9:45 into the final period while on the powerplay. Minnehan gave him the puck at the top left of the Nordiques zone before LaRusso moved down towards the net and picked the top corner for his third point of the affair.
Maine pressured hard in the final stages of the game with the goalie pulled and an extra attacker, but their efforts were left short as Hopp and the Generals defense kept them off the scoreboard in the third.
Hopp made 26 saves on 29 shots faced in the win. His counterpart Depape went 22 for 26 in the crease and suffers the loss.
The Generals welcome the Danbury Hattricks to the village for a midday Tuesday matchup at the Village. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Attleboro, Mass.
