Moose Dominant in 3rd Period for 4th Win
October 13, 2022 – Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) – Halifax Mooseheads News Release
The Halifax Mooseheads (4-0-1-0) are liking the results on the scoreboard early on in the 2022-23 season after picking up their fourth win in five games on Thursday night. The Herd used a three-goal third period to defeat Drummondville 5-2 at Scotiabank Centre and have now earned nine out of a possible 10 points to begin the year.
The teams were knotted at 2-2 heading into the final 20 minutes of regulation in a mostly evenly matched battle but the power play proved to be huge once again for the Mooseheads. Jordan Dumais tucked a beautiful shot up and under the cross bar on the man advantage midway through the period to give the home squad the lead for the first time in the game. It was the second power play marker of the night for the Herd who own the top power play in the league at 40%.
James Swan kept the scoring going when he potted his first of the season just over a minute later by banging in a rebound off a Brady Schultz drive to the net. That insurance tally made it 4-2 Halifax and Braeden MacPhee rounded out the scoring at 15:53 to put the game on ice. Attilio Biasca and Markus Vidicek had second period goals sandwiched around a pair of Luke Woodworth tallies for the Volts.
Mathis Rousseau stopped 20 of 22 shots to earn the victory while Jacob Goobie took the loss with 24 saves on 28 shots. Goobie briefly left the game late in the second period after getting cut on his blocker hand. Rookie Cedric Cyr-Dauphinais allowed the Vidicek goal on the only shot he faced.
Halifax was a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill and now has the fifth-best PK unit in the league at 85%. Mooseheads players picking up assists in the win were Mathieu Cataford (2), Jake Furlong, Evan Boucher, Jordan Dumais, Markus Vidicek and Brady Schultz.
Next up for the Moose is a road game on Sunday afternoon at 4pm in Moncton where they will face the Wildcats for the first time this season. Halifax will host a pair of home games on Saturday, October 22nd and Sunday, October 23rd vs Rouyn-Noranda and Acadie-Bathurst. Tickets are on sale now at TicketAtlantic.com.
