Monterey Bay Football Club Announces End of Season Awards

SEASIDE, California – Monterey Bay Football Club has announced its first-annual end of season award winners for 2022 as voted on by Monterey Bay F.C. players. Defender Kai Greene was selected by his teammates as the club’s Defensive Player of the Year, while forward Sam Gleadle was selected as the club’s Most Valuable Player. In addition, Gleadle and forward Chase Boone split this season’s Golden Boot award for the club and Antony Siaha is the club’s Golden Glove winner.


MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Sam Gleadle was voted the club’s Most Valuable Player for 2022 behind a season that saw the Chichester, England native involved in a team-high 11 goals (eight goals, three assists). The versatile Gleadle made starts at left back, left wing, and most recently second-forward on the year, giving Head Coach Frank Yallop multiple lineup options week in and week out. In addition, Gleadle created 23 chances in the attack and earned 1,936 minutes across 27 appearances (22 starts) in the club’s inaugural campaign.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Kai Greene topped a tight vote for the club’s Defensive Player of the Year award following a season in which the centerback played 2,774 minutes across 31 appearances (all starts), the second-highest mark on the team in all three categories. Defensively, the Jersey City, New Jersey native recorded 112 duels won, 107 clearances, 55 interceptions, 49 tackles, and 17 blocks. In addition, Greene added two assists and seven chances created.

GOLDEN GLOVE: Antony Siaha earns this season’s Golden Glove award with a team-high eight clean sheets in just 17 matches this season, the eighth-best mark in all of USL Championship in 2022. After joining Monterey Bay F.C. in May, the 24-year-old goalkeeper made his first start in between the sticks for the Crisp and Kelp on July 9 on the road against Orange County, a 2-0 shutout win. Siaha went on to record clean sheets in each of his first five professional starts and in six of his first seven and finished the season with a goal allowed average of 1.00. In addition, Siaha recorded a 73.4% save success rate with 47 saves on 64 shots faced.

GOLDEN BOOT: Gleadle & Chase Boone share this season’s Golden Boot award as the two each scored eight goals in the club’s USL Championship campaign. Boone was on target on 18 of his 31 total shots this season and added two assists offensively. Gleadle was on frame with 13 of his 20 shots. Breaking down each player’s eight goals, Boone scored three with his head, three with his left foot, and two with his right, while Gleadle scored six with his right foot and two with his left.
