Match Breakdown: New York Red Bulls 2 1-7 Miami FC

Miami FC got off the races with a couple of attempts on goal, especially one where winger Lamar Walker shook a couple of defenders and put his shot on target. However, New York’s Jordan Adebayo-Smith stunned the Orange and Blue with a goal in the tenth minute.

Winger Joaquín Rivas opened the floodgates, scoring his first goal with Miami in the 19th minute. The Salvadoran scored his second of the night just seven minutes later.

Then, it was striker Kyle Murphy’s turn. The 29-year-old finished a loose ball in the Red Bulls’ six-yard box in the 31st minute and bagged a penalty shortly after the referee signaled three added minutes. But before the half was over, New York’s Matthew Nocita scored an own goal forced by a cross from Rivas.

Things did not look good for the Red Bulls before the end first half, and even more so after midfielder Michael Knapp picked up a second yellow less than five minutes into the second half. Nonetheless, NYRB2 fended off Miami for about 20 minutes.

Salvadorans Josh Pérez and Christian Sorto combined for two goals off the bench. The two were introduced in the 67th minute. On the first one, Pérez dished a pass across the top of the box to Sorto, who placed the ball into the goal. And in the second, Sorto crossed the ball and Pérez bagged his fourth goal of the season.
