September 2, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL)Miami FC News Release

Miami, Fla. – The Miami Football Club looks to defend FIU Stadium again after taking down Eastern Conference leaders Louisville City FC last weekend. This time, the Orange and Blue will take on fourth-place Birmingham Legion.

Miami FC boasts a 5-0-1 record, winning three straight matches against Atlanta United, Hartford Athletic and Louisville City FC in the run-up to this weekend. Moreover, MFC head coach Anthony Pulis’ side kept a clean sheet in each encounter.

The victory against LouCity is Miami’s first at home since July 13. The clash against the Three Sparks will serve as an opportunity to continue climbing up the Eastern Conference table. As of now, Miami FC sits sixth in the conference, with 43 points. Birmingham sits above Pittsburgh Riverhounds (48 points), with 50 points. Both sides have played the same amount of games (27).

Snapping Louisville City FC’s 10-game undefeated streak

The Orange and Blue snapped the Boys in Purple’s 10-game undefeated streak over the weekend in front of home fans.

Striker Kyle Murphy notched his seventh goal of the season after just four minutes of play. Attacking midfielder Florian Valot sent a lofted through-ball for Murphy to chase. The 29-year-old managed to stay on his feet despite tussling with a defender on his way toward the goal and released a shot that went past goalkeeper Kyle Morton.

Goalkeeper Connor Sparrow and his defense took charge for the remainder of the game. The 28-year-old keeper made five saves, including a couple that got fans off their feet.

Sparrow’s efforts in goal and Miami’s sound defensive performance were enough to secure three points at home. The shutout is the team’s third straight, and sixth in its previous eight outings.

Last Time out against Birmingham Legion Miami and Birmingham went toe-to-toe on May 4. The fixture ended in a goalless draw at Protective Stadium.
