Miami FC Defeats Memphis 901 FC 1-0

Miami, Fla. – The Miami Football Club swept Memphis 901 FC after a 1-0 victory at FIU Stadium. The triumph made it back-to-back wins against Memphis this year.
Miami FC remains in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, with 52 points. Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Detroit City, Birmingham Legion and Tampa Bay Rowdies are all within three points.
Starting XI vs. Memphis 901 FC
Head Coach Anthony summoned a similar lineup to the one he deployed against Monterey Bay FC last weekend.
The only modification came in defense, with center-back Luca Antonelli replacing Engald’s Callum Chapman-Page.
Miami FC dominated Memphis 901 FC from start to finish. The opening minutes saw Miami have most of the possession. However, it was not until the 19th minute that the home side created a big chance.
Left-back Aedan Stanley crossed a ball deep to the second post. There, captain Paco Craig headed a squared pass in front of the goal. Midfielder Bolu Akinyode made contact with the ball, but his attempt on target was parried away by goalkeeper Trey Muse.
MFC goalkeeper Jake McGuire was tested minutes after, deviating a squared pass away from his six-yard box in the 24th minute.
Miami created a couple more chances and held to the majority of possession until the halftime whistle was blown.
The Orange and Blue picked up the pace in the second half, sending more players forward in search of a goal.
Winger Josh Pérez had a couple of close chances in the 50th and 54th minute, but both attempts on goal were blocked by Muse. The visitors’ goalkeeper also blocked a headed attempt on target by midfielder Devon “Speedy” Williams shortly after.
Striker Claudio Repetto and Winger Joaquin Rivas were introduced in the contest in the 60th minute, and quickly got involved in the attack. Rivas struck a volley on target that was kneed away from goal by Muse in the 63rd minute, and Repetto saw a low-driven shot blocked by the keeper four minutes after.
Forward Adonijah Reid, the last of five substitutes to come on the pitch, scored Miami’s game-winning goal in stoppage time. Repetto squared a ball for Reid, who tucked it into the back of the to give Miami FC three points.
Up next for Miami FC
After a three-game home run, Miami FC will hit the road to face Las Vegas Lights on Saturday, Oct. 8. The Orange and Blue are gaming for higher seeding.
