The Latest – Republic FC
Sacramento enters this match looking for a third unbeaten result over the Arizona side this season. The club bested Rising in Open Cup play back on May 11, before securing a point in a draw on July 23 in the desert. The club’s defense stood tall in both contests, recording a clean sheet each time out.
The playoff picture puts a lot of importance on this match – win, and Sacramento’s in. The Western Conference has provided a tight race of late, but Sacramento has the luxury of controlling its own destiny and the advantage of just one road game remaining.
Opponent Report
Rising FC’s playoff hopes are starting to draw thin, but that won’t keep the club from looking to make things difficult for Mark Briggs’ Men. Whether or not they sneak into the postseason, they can still spoil the day for Sacramento with a good performance. In addition, they’ll take the pitch with added motivation to snap a four-match winless streak that dates to the start of the September.
Wednesday’s contest also marks the first for Sacramento against Phoenix under new Head Coach Juan Guerra, who joined the side at the end of August. Their new head man knows plenty about Sacramento from his time with Oakland Roots – leading a team that played Sacramento tough every time out. Rising FC also brings former Sacramento defender Hayden Sargis with them, acquired on loan from Loudoun United September 8.
Head to Head
Wednesday will be the two sides’ 22nd match all-time. The all time scoring balance favors Sacramento, 20-17, while the club holds a one match advantage in overall record, securing seven wins to Phoenix’s six. Republic FC hasn’t lost to Phoenix in four meetings dating to last season, outscoring their foes 3-1 in that timeframe and recording three clean sheets.
