Long-Awaited ‘Orange Jersey Day’ Set for October 16th

After a long wait due to cancellations, the Islanders will finally wear their limited edition Orange Jerseys on Sunday afternoon when they host the Drummondville Voltigeurs on Sunday, October 16 at 3:00 pm at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.


“We are proud and excited to finally wear our limited edition Orange jerseys and to host our first ever Orange Jersey Day,” said President of Operations, Craig Foster. “It is important for us, as the Island’s Major Junior franchise to be an ally in reconciliation and to honor and recognize Residential School survivors, their families, and communities. We will also take the opportunity to raise awareness of the Island’s Mi’kmaq history and culture.”

The special orange jersey features the traditional Mi’kmaq Eight-point Star and Double Curve.

“By organizing this event which moves reconciliation forward, the Charlottetown Islanders are showing leadership and being great role models,” said Chief Junior Gould of Abegweit First Nation.

Orange Jersey Day will also feature Mi’kmaq cultural performances and showcase videos about the Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq. It is anticipated that a number of children will be able to attend the game.

“October 16th will be a special day for our People, especially our Youth and Elders,” said Chief Darlene Bernard of Lennox Island First Nation. “I look forward to joining in the planned events.”

Orange Jersey Day will be organized in conjunction with PEI’s two First Nations through their Rights and Reconciliation organization, L’nuey.

Sunday Family Packs are available in person at the Eastlink Centre Box Office for only $55! The package includes 2 (Under-60/60+) and 2 (Under-25/Under-13) tickets plus two Islanders team posters. Following the game, the full Islanders team will be signing autographs for fans.
