Leadership Group Announced for the 2022-23 Season
October 18, 2022 – United States Hockey League (USHL) – Madison Capitols News Release
The Madison Capitols are proud to announce the leadership group for the 2022-23 season. Among the leaders, there are five players that will wear letters, two captains and three alternate captains.
Matt McGroarty and Nick Wallace will serve as team captains and will dawn a “C” on their chest for the Capitols this season. Matt McGroarty, a native of Westport, Connecticut, has recorded two goals in seven games played this season. McGroarty has been a constant in the Capitols lineup over the past two seasons dressing in all 83 regular season and postseason games since the start of the 2021-22 regular season. Nick Wallace, a native of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, is in his third USHL season and his second with Madison. Prior to suiting up for the Capitols, Wallace played the 2020-21 season with the Waterloo Black Hawks. Wallace has recorded four assists this season and is at 99 career games played.
The Capitols also announced the alternate captains for the 2022-23 season with those being Ethan Elias, Quinn Finley, and Jack Musa. Elias, a native of Maple Grove, Minnesota, is the lone player within the leadership group to not play for the Capitols last season. He spent the 2021-22 season with Omaha before being acquired by trade in July. Finley, a native of Suamico, Wisconsin, enters his third season in the USHL. He was selected first overall by the Capitols in the 2020 USHL Futures Draft and is one of two NHL draft picks on the Capitols team. Musa, a native of Mirmar Lakes, Florida, is the leading goal scorer on the team through seven games this season with four. He also recorded the most points among returners for Madison in 2021-22.
Head Coach and General Manager Corey Leivermann said the following when asked about his leadership group for the season:
“First and foremost, all five of these guys and two other players in Lamb and Lewis have all deserved letters. We have a leadership group that has done a tremendous job of relaying the message from the coaching staff to the players. The reason that they are put in this group is because they bring their effort, their compete, and they bring their vocal voices on and off the ice. Kudos to those five, but again Lamb and Lewis are also in our leadership group whether they have an ‘A’ or not, they are also leaders on this team.”
Madison has this weekend off after a 4-1-0-0 start to Eastern Conference play this season. The leadership group hits the ice with the rest of the Capitols on October 28th and 29th at Bob Suter’s Capitol Ice Arena. Tickets for both games that weekend can be purchased at tickets.madcapshockey.com. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm on both nights.
