Lancers Rally Past the Defending Clark Cup Champions

October 16, 2022 – United States Hockey League (USHL)Omaha Lancers News Release

OMAHA, NE- The Omaha Lancers took on the defending Clark Cup Champs at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. Omaha came off a victory Friday night at Young Arena in Waterloo to defeat the Blackhawks by the score of 4-2. Meanwhile the Sioux City Musketeers came off a heartbreaker at the Tyson’s Event Center in Sioux City-losing to the Fargo Force in overtime 4-3.

The first period began with heavy forecheck pressure coming from Sioux City. The energetic Musketeers would cash in first early on with a Ryan Conmy wrister from the slot, making it 1-0 Sioux City.

The Musketeers continued to apply pressure, but Lancer netminder Kevin Pasche returned to mid-season form, stopping everything that was shot his way.

Later in the first, the Lancers got a powerplay opportunity, and they scored on it. It was University of Nebraska-Omaha commit Charlie Lurie who got his third goal of the season, which made it a tied game at one apiece.

The second period was a choppy paced period. A plethora of offside calls knocked both clubs out of rhythm offensively preventing either team from scoring in the second.

The Musketeers would apply pressure late in the second however, as Kevin Pasche was up to the task stopping all 10 Sioux City shots in the second.

The third period was much more entertaining, with chances back and forth, both goaltenders came through shutting out they’re respective opponents in the third to keep it a 1-1 tie after regulation.

The overtime began with a continuation of a Sioux City powerplay, but the Lancers managed to kill it off.

With 3:25 to go in the overtime period, Lancer forward Andon Cerbone won an attacking zone faceoff back to Alex Bump who found Tucker Shedd in the slot. Followed by Shedd ripping a shot past the glove of Musketeer netminder, Croix Kochendorfer, as the Lancers rally past Sioux City to win 2-1 in overtime.

The Lancers move to 3-1-1-1; while the defending Clark Cup Champs remain winless; falling to 0-3-2-0.

The Lancers are back in action Friday, October 21st at Liberty First Credit Union Arena as they take on the the Des Moines Buccaneers for a 7:05PM puck drop. That game can be caught on FloSports and Mixlr.
