Lancers’ Preseason Concludes with a 6-3 Loss

Today the Omaha Lancers and the Lincoln Stars brought the I-80 Rivalry to Liberty First Credit Union Arena following last night’s first Omaha win of the preseason; a 2-1 OT Victory over the Stars at the Ice Box.
The game began with Lincoln dictating the pace early; putting pressure on veteran Lancers Netminder Kevin Pasche.
The scoring began with a Stars goal coming from Michael Mesic out in front after a Lancers penalty to defenseman Nate Benoit.
Lincoln was not done, after a feed to Stars D-man D.J. Hart; who shot a wicked wrister from the point to put the Stars up 2-0.
The Stars continued their offensive prowess in the opening frame. It was UNO commit Tanner Ludtke who found his way behind the Lancers defense; tallying another powerplay marker after a Matt Romer penalty; making it 3-0 Lincoln.
The Lancers would not come out of the opening frame completely empty handed however, after Lancers forward Griffin Jurecki scores against his former team to cut the deficit to make it 3-1.
The second period opens with a flurry of Lancer opportunities, but nothing finding the back of the net.
Lincoln responds with numerous opportunities themselves, and they capitalize with another wrist shot from the point; this time coming from Stars D-man Jimmy Jurcev to make it 4-1 Lincoln.
Later on in the second frame, Lincoln continued to pour it on after a Lancers penalty to Donovan Hamilton; the Stars execute with yet another power-play goal and yet another Michael Mesic tally to extend the Stars lead at 5-1.
The Stars yet again were not done; being a man down after Lincoln’s Jack Sparkes committed a checking from behind penalty, Stars’ forward Wyatt Olson was rewarded a penalty shot on the in suing kill. Olson managed to sneak one by Pasche to make it 6-1.
The third and final frame, opens with a Lancer goal, as it was second year defenseman Tucker Shedd who finds the back of the net after a quality chance coming from Lancer forward Vincent Salice.
Later in the third, Lancer forward Will Diamond gets on the goal sheet with a backhander top shelf to cut the deficit in half at 6-3.
Despite two unanswered goals in the third; the Lancers fall short of the Stars 6-3.
The Lancers end their preseason with an overall record of 1-5-0. While the Stars go to 2-0-2.
The Lancers will begin regular season play at the Fall Classic in Pittsburgh next Saturday at 4:35 CST. You can catch the game on Flo Sports, or listen to it on Mixlr.
