November 6, 2022 – United States Hockey League (USHL)Omaha Lancers News Release

DES MOINES, IA. – After falling last night (11/4) to the Lincoln Stars at the Ice Box by a score of 1-0, the Lancers headed east to Des Moines to take on the Buccaneers for the second time this season.

The first meeting between the two squads was back on October 21st, which resulted in a 3-1 win for Des Moines. Although the Lancers were dominant that night, goaltender Jan Korec was a bit too much for them, only allowing one goal on 34 shots.

The Buccaneers picked up the lone goal of the opening period tonight (11/5) as Talon Sigurdson tallied his first goal of the season off a ricocheted shot from Jak Vaarwerk on the powerplay, giving Des Moines the 1-0 lead through one period of play.

Overall the Lancers controlled the first period, outshooting the Buccaneers 11-10.

The second period was when Des Moines completely took over offensively.

Five unanswered goals in a ten minute span propelled the Bucs up to a 6-0 lead with just under five minutes left in the period.

Des Moines’ second period scoring went as follows:

5:03 – Goal: E. Fredericks / Assists: T. Sigurdson & M. Bevilacqua

9:53 – Goal: T. Sigurdson / Assist: G. Silkalns

11:28 – J. Muldowney / Assist: J. Vaarwerk

14:13 – G. Stjernberg / Assist: F. Deschenes

15:05 – M. Stenberg / Assists: J. Gramer & A. Ruklic

The Lancers picked up a powerplay goal with 2:11 left to play in the period from Andon Cerbone for his third of the season, with Marcus Broberg and Alex Bump picking up assists. Making it a 6-2 game through 40 minutes.

The Lancers stopped the bleeding for a while and picked up their second goal of the evening just over the halfway mark of the third period.

Alex Bump fought off a check in his defensive zone and found Griffin Jurecki with a stretch pass leading to a breakaway. Jurecki hit the low corner by the right skate of Buccaneer goaltender, Max Lundgren to make it a 6-2 deficit for Omaha with just under nine minutes to play.

Des Moines closed out the scoring with just 3:38 left to play as Silkalns netted his second goal of the season off a pass from Sigurdson that went top-shelf on Lancers backup goalie, Oskar Siemionek who played the duration of the third period for his official USHL debut.

The late Silkalns goal made it a 7-2 final score as the Lancers dropped their third straight to fall to a 4-5-2-1 record. Meanwhile, Des Moines improves to 5-6-1-0.

The Lancers will be back in action on Friday, November 11th for Military Appreciation Night as they face off against the Lincoln Stars for a 7:05pm puck drop. That game can be caught on Mixlr and FloSports.
