First Star Juan Copeland scored twice, propelling the IceDogs to a 7-3 Meridian Centre victory over Flint.
Down 2-0 early, Pasquale Zito’s second of the year on the power-play at 12:09, brought Daniel Fitzgerald’s team closer but another Firebirds tally had the home side trailing 3-1 with just over four minutes left. Pano Fimis hit for his second at 16:32 and when Nolan Dann scored on the man advantage 53 seconds later, his second brought the IceDogs back even at 3-all. First period shots read Niagara 24, Flint 11.
From there it was all IceDogs. A third rookie goal from Kevin He and Copleand’s first of two made it 5-3 after two. While Copleand’s team leading fourth in the third and Declan Waddick’s third late in the game rounded out the scoring. The two teams split twenty shots in period two, with the IceDogs holding a 13-11 final period shots edge.For the game, it was 47 Niagara shots on goal, with Flint’s total ended at 32.
Thursday night it’s the First Responders Game with the Erie Otters in town for a 7 o’clock puck drop.
