Jr. Blues Salvage Split with Steel

October 17, 2022 – North American Hockey League (NAHL)Springfield Jr. Blues News Release

Chippewa Falls, WI – The Springfield Jr. Blues snapped a four-game skid on Saturday night and left the state of Wisconsin with two out of four points against the red hot Chippewa Steel. The Jr. Blues now sit with a 4-7-0-0 record for 8 points.

Friday: SPR 1 – 5 CHP

After a rough weekend series against Kenai River, the Jr. Blues traveled up to Chippewa on Friday to square off with Steel and get back in the win column. The home team, however, had much different plans.

The Steel scored first and saw five different players find the back of the net en route to a 5-1 victory. The Jr. Blues’ lone tally came on the Power Play just past the halfway mark of the 3rd period thanks to a rocket of a shot off the stick of Cole Lonsdale, his 3rd of the season.

Aksel Reid stopped 6 of 8 and took the loss, while Carson Dorfman stopped 13 of 16 in relief. Tyler Borgula and Nikita Nikora each had an assist on the goal by Lonsdale.

Saturday: SPR 2 – 1 CHP

The Jr. Blues used an all-around team effort to stop the losing streak and split the weekend series on Saturday night. The Steel scored early in the game, but the boys answered the bell and held the home team scoreless in four Power Play opportunities.

As the 2nd period began, the momentum began to shift. Nikita Nikora scored his 4th goal of the season just past the six minute mark of the middle frame to tie the game up 1-1. Isaac Keller would then score his 1st goal of the season a minute and a half later to give the Jr. Blues a 2-1 lead, their first of the weekend. From that point forward it was the Carson Dorfman Show.

The Nashville, TN native would frustrate the Steel offense the rest of the way as he finished the night with 33 saves and picked up his 1st win of the season. Mac Gadowsky, Tyler Borgula, and Cole Lonsdale all had assists in the game as well.

Upcoming Games:

The Jr. Blues head up to Cloquet, MN this weekend for a pair of games against the Minnesota Wilderness. Both Friday and Saturday’s games start at 7:15 pm CST and can be seen exclusively on HockeyTV!
