September 15, 2022 – International League (IL) – Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
NASHVILLE – The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp ceded a season-high 18 hits in a 12-4 loss on Wednesday to the Nashville Sounds from First Horizon Park.
With the Jumbo Shrimp (74-62) ahead 2-1, Jonathan Davis led off the second with a base hit before moving to second on an error. Two batters later, Sal Frelick crushed his first Triple-A home run off Matthew Kent (7-11) to put the Sounds (82-54) in front 4-2. It was a lead they would not relinquish.
Joey Wiemer led off the third with a double and Pablo Reyes followed with a base hit. After a strikeout, Pedro Severino lifted a sacrifice fly to bring in a run. Weston Wilson followed with an RBI double to make it 6-2.
Jacksonville inched closer in the fifth. Bryson Brigman and Brian Miller singled to jumpstart the frame against Nashville starter Victor Castaneda (1-0). Two batters later, Jesús Sánchez notched an RBI ground out to place the Jumbo Shrimp within three runs.
That was as close as Jacksonville would get the remainder of the night. Brice Turang walked with one out in the sixth before Jon Singleton and Wiemer collected consecutive RBI doubles to widen the gap to 8-3.
In the seventh, Brigman singled and Miller doubled with one out. A wild pitch brought in Brigman, but in the bottom of the frame, Severino led off with home run to get the tally back. Frelick added his second shot of the game two batters later to put the margin at 10-4.
Back-to-back singles by Singleton and Wiemer started the Sounds’ eighth. Reyes smacked a two-run double to get the score at the final margin of 12-4.
The Jumbo Shrimp initially jumped out in front in their first at-bats. Peyton Burdick walked with out one and Sánchez reached on an infield single. After a double steal, Willians Astudillo doubled in the pair for the contest’s first tallies.
In the bottom of the first inning, though, Esteury Ruiz, who stole a career-high five bases, singled and swiped second. He scored on a Turang RBI single for Nashville’s first run.
LHP Josh Rogers (2-6, 6.96 ERA) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp in Thursday’s 8:05 p.m. ET first pitch against Nashville RHP Josh Lindblom (7-7, 4.41 ERA).
