Inter Miami CF II Travels North to Face Toronto FC II for Second Time in September
September 13, 2022 – MLS NEXT Pro (MLS NEXT Pro) – Inter Miami CF II News Release
Inter Miami CF II (9W-5D-8L, 33 points) is on the road for the final two games of the 2022 MLS NEXT Pro season, first facing Toronto FC II (11W-3D-8L, 38 points) at York Lions Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. ET. The match will be streamed live on MLSNEXTPro.com.
In his message to the team following a fiercely contested draw against league leaders Columbus Crew 2 on Sunday night, head coach Darren Powell noted that he was proud of their effort, and was fully focused on ensuring that the players were ready to finish the season strong.
“We go again. They’re a great group of guys, and they’ve worked extremely hard all year,” Powell said. “We dust ourselves off, we get ourselves ready, because we’ve now got to travel to Toronto and make sure we’re super competitive. Last week’s game [against Toronto] was very emotional as well, and I don’t anticipate Wednesday’s game to be any different. We’ll make sure our players are ready; as long as everyone comes with that same character and determination throughout the team, it’s fantastic. And it’s not just the guys on the field, it’s not just the guys on the bench, the staff are invested in it, and so is every player on this squad. We’ll continue to grow.”
Inter Miami II currently sits in fifth in the Eastern Conference standings, with a game in hand to be played. The squad enters Wednesday’s game against Toronto having faced them once previously this month, but with a positive spirit after taking a point off league and conference leaders Columbus.
During the match against Columbus, Benjamin Cremaschi notched his first assist of the season, queueing up Shanyder Borgelin’s thirteenth goal of the season; Borgelin currently leads Inter Miami II in goals and is tied for fourth-highest scorer in the league.
