November 2, 2022 – XFL (XFL)

The XFL revealed the names and logos for the eight teams competing in the 2023 season. Taking the field for the XFL will be the Arlington Renegades, D.C. Defenders, Houston Roughnecks, Orlando Guardians, San Antonio Brahmas, Seattle Sea Dragons, St. Louis BattleHawks and Vegas Vipers.

“We could not be more excited to unveil our new team identities,” said Dany Garcia, XFL Chairwoman and Owner. “Countless hours of creative sessions and collaboration went into bringing these team brands to life. Each team’s identity represents the fabric of their local community while also embodying the XFL’s vision and ethos: they are authentic, dynamic, modern, and unapologetically bold. We can’t wait to see our XFL fans representing their favorite XFL teams this upcoming season.”

Here is more information on all eight teams and their logos:

Arlington Renegades

Stadium: Choctaw Stadium
Head Coach: Bob Stoops

In 2020 the team was known as the Dallas Renegades, but with the XFL using Arlington as a hub city for all eight teams to practice for the next three years, the name change made sense.

The new logo features a prominent, blue letter “R,” but the logo used in the 2020 was much more eye-catching. It appears the uniforms will have a similar color as the 2020 version.

D.C. Defenders

Stadium: Audi Field
Head Coach: Reggie Barlow

A returning team from 2020, the new logo features a white “C” and red star inside a red “D.” The colors remain the same as in 2020.

Houston Roughnecks

Stadium: TDECU Stadium
Head coach: Wade Phillips

The NFL filed an opposition to the XFL’s attempt to trademark the 2020 logo, stating it was too similar to the Houston Oilers logo. The league ended up abandoning the trademark on April 7, 2021. The new oil derrick logo is smaller and more compact.

Orlando Guardians

Stadium: Camping World Stadium
Head Coach: Terrell Buckley

This name came from the New York Guardians, a team which played in 2020. The logo is very similar to New York’s which featured a gray, fanged predator with red accents. The Orlando version looks like a wildcat with green neon trim. It will be interesting to see how the neon green is incorporated into the uniform. The World League of American Football’s Orlando Thunder featured bright green uniforms in 1991 and 1992.

San Antonio Brahmas

Stadium: Alamodome
Head Coach: Hines Ward

San Antonio is a new city for the XFL. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson probably had input on selecting this name with him having a Brahma bull tattoo on his right arm. Gold looks to be an accent color in their jerseys.

Seattle Sea Dragons

Stadium: Lumen Field
Head Coach: Jim Haslett

In 2020 the team was known as the Seattle Dragons. This logo spotlights a dragon in the shape of the letter “S,” similar to what the NHL’s Seattle Kraken have done. Look for a similar green and red uniform as worn by the 2020 team.

St. Louis BattleHawks

Stadium: The Dome at America’s Center
Head Coach: Anthony Becht

The XFL’s most popular team in 2020, the XFL’s new management didn’t want to mess with a good thing. This logo saw some minor teaks compared to the 2020 version with the sword and the wings standing more on their own where before they were more connected.

Vegas Vipers

Stadium: TBA
Head Coach: Rod Woodson

Like Orlando, the logo is essentially recycled from 2020, with Vegas borrowing from the defunct Tampa Bay Vipers. This time, red and black are the colors. Las Vegas is the largest remaining question as a venue has not been announced.
