Indy Eleven Trio Earn National Team Call Ups
September 19, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – Indy Eleven News Release
INDIANAPOLIS – Indy Eleven has seen three players – defender/captain Neveal Hackshaw and forwards Rodney Michael and Wilfredo Rivera – called into their respective national team camps in preparation for friendlies set to take place during the upcoming FIFA international window from Sept. 19-27.
While Rivera’s short time with the Puerto Rican Men’s National may allow him to not miss any time for the Boys in Blue, the travels by Hackshaw and Michael with Trinidad & Tobago and Sierra Leone, respectively, will rule them out of the Eleven’s return home this Sunday, Sept. 25, against Loudoun United FC, and a road trip to Georgia to take on Atlanta United 2 on Wednesday, Sept. 28. All three players should again be available for Indiana’s Team on Oct. 1, when it welcomes FC Tulsa to IUPUI Carroll Stadium.
Hackshaw will continue his stalwart performances for Trinidad & Tobago, which travels to Chiang Mai, Thailand, for the King’s Cup mini-tournament. The Soca Warriors will take on Tajikistan this Thursday, Sept. 22, before facing either Malaysia or host Thailand in the Final or Third-place Match on Sunday, Sept. 25. The most recent of Hackshaw’s 25 senior caps for T&T came back in June with a trio of appearances in Concacaf Nations League action, which saw the soon-to-turn 27-year-old score his first two international goals in wins over The Bahamas and St. Vincent & The Grenadines.
Rivera has been beckoned by Puerto Rico ahead of its friendly against the Dominican Republic. That contest will take place next Thursday, Sept. 22, at the home of The Miami FC, Riccardo Silva Stadium in Miami, at 7:30 p.m. ET. At just 18 years of age, the San Juan area native will already be looking for his ninth senior cap since last January for El Huracán Azul, which is under the direction of veteran American head coach Dave Sarachan.
Michael will be looking to make his full international debut for his native Sierra Leone after getting called into the West African nation’s camp. Michael and the Leone Stars will face a stiff test this Saturday, Sept. 24, when they travel to Johannesburg to face South Africa before heading north across the continent to Morocco for a neutral ground friendly in Rabat against the Democratic Republic of Congo next Tuesday, Sept. 27.
