“No matter your age, background, skill or experience, if you share the Sting core values and a love for the game, you are welcome in the Sting family.” Comments Sting President Bill Abercrombie during a photo opportunity at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
“As a leader in the community it is our duty to support inclusion in our game. We feel our community is healthier together, working collaboratively towards the same goals which will ultimately benefit and support our youth and the growth of our youth programs here locally. We are proud to announce this partnership today with SHA and look forward to seeing our recreational teams showcase their Sarnia Hockey pride with the Sting crest on their jersey’s.” Abercrombie adds.
SHA recreational players will not only have the opportunity to share the Sting crest but will also receive additional hockey opportunities through the Sarnia Hockey Rec Membership. This includes a special Sarnia Hockey Day Sting Game, exclusive rec Sting merchandise access, membership prize raffle, access to Sting Hockey Academy development camps and discounted Sting OHL ticket package opportunity.
Kevin Taylor, Sarnia Hockey Association Vice Chair, Recreational Leagues comments on this partnership:
“This is a very meaningful transition for a lot of little hockey fans.”
“Last season the Sarnia Sting had a message, that message was to Rise United, not only as a team but as a community. This season each Sarnia hockey player will be wearing the same logo on their jersey. Sarnia Hockey is very happy to partner with the Sarnia Sting Hockey Club to help bring us closer together. We are going to be a bigger community and a tighter hockey family. One of Sarnia Hockey’s main goals is to continue to provide an inclusive hockey experience for everyone that loves the game. Sarnia Hockey isn’t just boys’ hockey or the best hockey or any specific type of hockey. Sarnia Hockey is hockey for everybody, and this small change means that everybody can be part of the Sarnia Sting no matter who you are, how old you are or what category of hockey you choose to play” Taylor adds.
