Herb Shuts Down Memphis
September 3, 2022 – International League (IL) – Memphis Redbirds News Release
NASHVILLE, TN – The Memphis Redbirds went down early and were stifled by solid pitching, dropping a 4-1 contest to the Nashville Sounds on Saturday night at First Horizon Park. Tyler Herb (6-5) earned the win, giving up a run in eight innings of work.
Connor Thomas (6-8) struggled out of the gate by loading the bases in the first inning and walking in a run. In the second, Nashville tallied five straight singles against him, including a two-run infield dribbler from Sal Frelick that made it 3-0 Sounds.
Thomas buckled down and stranded two runners to end the inning. He left seven on-base but was dealt the loss after giving up three runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out two in four innings.
Memphis scored their lone run in the fourth inning after Alec Burleson doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI groundout by Juan Yepez. That was the only extra-base hit for the Redbirds, who scattered seven hits across the first five innings. They put one runner aboard in the final four frames.
The Memphis Redbirds (64-63) wrap up their six-game series against the Nashville Sounds (78-49) with the series finale on Sunday afternoon. LHP Matthew Liberatore is scheduled to start against RHP Caleb Boushley. First pitch is slated for 2:05pm CDT at First Horizon Park.
