HARTFORD ATHLETIC (6-15-6) vs LA GALAXY II (10-11-6)
LAST TIME OUT
Hartford Athletic are coming off a 3-3 tie to New York Red Bulls II last Wednesday night on the road. It was a wild match in which both teams’ brightest moments were at the very beginning and very end. The Green and Blue got out to a disastrous start, conceding two goals in the opening three minutes of the match, the first coming just 18 seconds in. A goal from Tom Brewitt in the 50th minute cut the Red Bull lead in half, but a goal from Jonathan Filipe 20 minutes later made it 3-1 New York. Hartford ended the match with two goals in the six minutes of stoppage time that were added. One came from Juan Carlos Obregón Jr. at the 90:00+1:53,’ and the equalizer came from Rashawn Dally at the 90+5:29.’
SUPER SUB
Amidst a bleak start against NY Red Bulls II on Wednesday, Ray Reid made the decision to bring on Rashawn Dally in the 63rd minute, who proved to be integral to Hartford’s final two goals of the match. Dally tallied his team-leading fifth assist in the 92nd minute when his cross found the head of fellow substitute Juan Carlos Obregón Jr. His heroics weren’t yet complete, as he scored the game-tying goal just three minutes later. He muscled off two NY defenders in the box and rocketed the ball past Derrek Chan’s shoulder near post, securing a point for Hartford.
UNFAMILIAR FOE
When the Green and Blue travel to Dignity Health Sports Park to play the Galaxy II, it will mark the first match between the two sides. Athletic has been in this situation five times so far this season, with four of those matches being played away from home. Hartford has collected five points when facing opponents for the first time, including a 2-1 win at FC Tulsa and draws at El Paso Locomotive and Rio Grande Valley Toros.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Hartford Athletic, Younes Boudadi, DF #2:
Younes Boudadi has been a key distributor from the outside flanks this season for Hartford. He only has one assist on the season, but is third on the team in chances created (26) and generates many of them through his crosses into the opponent’s box. He leads the team with 71 total crosses, and last week, he played the ball to Rashawn Dally that led to the game-tying goal.
LA Galaxy II, Tsubasa Endoh, MF #46
Tsubasa Endoh made his debut for the Galaxy off the bench last week, and made an impact immediately. The new signing scored the game’s only goals, recording a brace in LA’s 2-0 victory over Monterey Bay and earned himself USL Championship Team of the Week honorable mention. Across 29 total USL Championship appearances, the former Toronto FC midfielder has scored 13 goals.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
LA Galaxy II entered their previous match against Monterey Bay F.C. winless in their last five games, losing twice and drawing three. However, their subpar run of form came to an end when they visited the Union at Cardinale Stadium. The match was fairly stagnant until the 74th minute, when substitute Tsubasa Endoh steered home a cutback pass for his first goal with the club. Endoh struck again in the 91st, securing all 3 points for the visitors on a stellar debut. Los Dos enters Monday night’s match with a 10-11-6 record while being one point out of a Western Conference playoff spot. The hosts have 44 goals in the USL Championship this season, good for 7th overall. Preston Judd, who has netted 12 goals thus far, is Galaxy II’s leading goalscorer, but he hasn’t featured on the scoresheet since July 23rd.
