Game Day Preview: Spirit Host Division-Champion Spitfires Saturday Night

Saginaw, Mich – The Saginaw Spirt (2-1-0-0) return home to take on the Windsor Spitfires (1-0-1-0) at the Dow Event Center in Riverfront Saginaw, Michigan on Saturday Night.

Last Night:

The Spirit won their first road game of the season against the Sarnia Sting 7-4. Dean Loukus had three assists and one goal to help Saginaw come out on top.

The Spitfires faced off against the Sudbury Wolves winning 5-4 on Thursday night. Oliver Peer had two goals for the Spitfires, who jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but had to hang on to a 5-4 decision.

Head-to-Head:

This is the first meeting of the season between the West Division rivals and marks the 125th meeting all-time between Saginaw and Windsor. Saginaw finished last season with a 2-5-0-0 record against the eventual Western Conference Champion, Spitfires. The Spirit are 49-60-9-4 with two ties all-time against Windsor. They are 30-22-5-2 with one tie all-time at The Dow Event Center against the Spitfires.

Players To Watch:

Dean Loukus and Pavel Mintyukov are tied for not only the team lead in points, but also the OHL lead in points with seven on the season . Calem Mangone and Matyas Sapovaliv are tied for the team-lead with three goals. Dean Loukus’ six assists ties him for the league-lead in that department. Tristan Lennox has seen the bulk of the playing time thus far in goal, posting a 2-0-0-0 record with a 5.25 goals against average (GAA) and an 8.06 save percentage (SV%).

Oliver Peer leads Windsor in goals with two. Nicholas DeAngelis and Jacob Maillet are tied for the most assists with two. Peer, DeAngelis, Maillet, and Alex Christopoulos all share the points lead at two. Mathais Onuska has been the only goaltender to play for Windsor thus far and is 1-0-1-0 with a 2.99 GAA and a .908 SV%.
