It wasn’t the start to preseason play they wanted, but the Winterhawks’ loss to Seattle on Friday served its purpose as several new faces got their very first taste of WHL hockey. Young players like Kyle McDonough, Ryan Miller, Alex Thompson and more faced off against an experienced Seattle side, getting the initial shock of major junior pace out of the way early.

“It’s a huge change. Some of these guys that I grew up watching and getting autographs and pictures and now I’m playing against them. It was a great experience and these guys have a lot of speed and power so it’s really good for me to get a chance to play with and against them,” said 2007-born rookie Kyle McDonough.

With their first game behind them now, the Hawks young and veteran will look to get the offense going against Everett.
