Forward Madison Falls to Richmond Kickers
October 10, 2022 – United Soccer League One (USL1) – Forward Madison FC News Release
Forward Madison FC hosted a match against the USL League One’s first place club, Richmond Kickers, at Breese Stevens Field on Saturday, October 8th at 7:00 pm CT. This was FMFC’s home finale for 2022 and Fan Appreciation Night. The match resulted in a 0-1 loss for the Flamingos.
The first half started with both teams trying to fight for early momentum in the match. The Flamingos had a golden chance in the 24th minute when Jeremiah Streng broke through the Richmond defense and was one-on-one with the Richmond keeper. Streng pushed the shot wide and the ball went out of play for a goal kick. Richmond then worked the ball into the attacking half and capitalized on a well-weighted pass into the box to open the scoring and take the lead in the 36th minute. With two minutes of stoppage time added, neither team could log any shots in the final moments, forcing the squads to enter the halftime break with the Kickers ahead 1-0.
The second half kicked off with substitutions for both squads. For Forward Madison, Matheus Cassini subbed on for Justin Sukow. The first quality chance in the second half came from Nazeem Bartman. In the 48th minute, Bartman received a pass from the wing and fired a shot just over the post. The second half continued on until the 62nd minute when Richmond started to threaten again with a free kick. Raiko Arozarena managed to throw his body on the line to make the catch save and force a clearance for the ‘Mingos. The Flamingos logged another quality chance in the 80th minute when a Rojay Smith cross into the box connected with Streng’s head, however the striker’s shot went just wide. In the 85th minute, Streng controlled a pass in the Richmond box. The striker turned with the ball and shot the ball far over the top post. A couple minutes later, Richmond’s Finch logged the first card of the match when he knocked down Cassini.
Looking ahead, Forward Madison FC will conclude their 2022 season in Arizona, as they take on FC Tucson on Saturday, October 15th at 9:00 pm. The Kickers will head home to host a match against the Greenville Triumph on October 15th at 5:30 pm.
