Force Down the Storm 9-3
September 10, 2022 – United States Hockey League (USHL) – Fargo Force News Release
The Force capped of the weekend with a big 9-3 win over the Tri-City Storm.
The scoring kicked off in the first period after Ty Henricks’ forechecking forced a turnover to Noah Eyre who sniped one top right, giving the Force a 1-0 lead.
Shortly after Eyre’s goal, Charlie Russell converted on a 1-on-0 against Storm goaltender Niklas Erickson extending the lead to 2-0.
With 9 seconds remaining in the first period Force forward Boris Skalos cleaned up a loose puck on the powerplay, closing out the first frame with a 3-0 Fargo lead.
Joe Palodichuk, a returner from last year’s Force squad, scored on a rebound just over 5 minutes into the second period making it 4 to nothing Fargo. Fellow returner J.P. Turner joined the fun with a goal of his own just over a minute later, finishing off a nice feed from Dakota MacIntosh.
Boris Skalos continued the Force scoring onslaught, notching his second of the afternoon with a beautiful between-the-legs goal, putting the Force up 6-0 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the second.
Tri-City got on the board late in period number two, cutting the lead to 6-1, but that didn’t last long. Shortly after, a one-time point shot on the man advantage from Leo Gruba gave the Force their 4th goal of the middle frame as they headed to the third up 7-1.
Anthony Menghini got things started for the Force with a short-handed tuck at 14:50 in the third period.
The Saturday afternoon contest ended 9-3 in favor of the Force, following back-to-back Tri-City goals, and a quick shot by Harper Bentz with seconds remaining.
Anton Castro served between the pipes for the first half, saving all 7 shots he faced. Nolan Suggs filled in for the second half, stopping 9 of 12.
The Force head back home to face the Wenatchee Wild in an exhibition game at 7:15 PM on Wednesday followed by a home game vs. the Sioux Falls Stampede at 6:00PM on Saturday and round 2 vs. the Wenatchee Wild at 6:00PM on Sunday!
All of the Force’s home preseason games are free and open to the public so make sure to head out to the Farmers Union Insurance Arena (adjacent to Scheels Arena) to cheer on the Force in their final 3 preseason games this week!
