First Giveaway of Steel Season this Friday
October 5, 2022 – United States Hockey League (USHL) – Chicago Steel News Release
GENEVA, ILLINOIS – The first 500 fans to enter the gates this Friday night at Fox Valley Ice Arena will receive a 2022-2023 magnet schedule featuring Steel defenseman Jake Livanavage, the first of six scheduled giveaway nights this season.
The Chicago Steel (3-1-0-0; 6 pts.) host the Dubuque Fighting Saints (1-2-0-0; 2 pts.) on Friday, Oct. 7 on home ice for the first of six meetings this season between the top two finishers in the Eastern Conference last season.
Lucky fans in attendance will get to show off their speed in a three-legged race on ice, challenge their minds with a word scramble, put their music knowledge to the test with ‘Name That Tune’ and even strengthen their relationships with the newlywed game.
After the matchup of perennial Eastern Conference contenders, Chicago travels to Wisconsin for the first time this season for a showdown against the defending Eastern Conference Champions, the Madison Capitols (1-2-0-0; 2 pts), on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Bob Suter’s Capitol Ice Arena.
Last weekend, the Steel took down the Muskegon Lumberjacks 5-1 in Michigan on Sep. 30 before suffering their first loss of the 2022-2023 season, a 2-1 defeat against the Green Bay Gamblers.
Steel defenseman Nolan Joyce tallied his first markers in a Steel uniform with a two-goal performance in the 5-1 win over the Lumberjacks on Sep. 30.
Cameron Johnson added his first goal as a member of the Steel against Muskegon and picked up an assist in the 2-1 loss against Green Bay, extending his season-opening point streak to four games. The Harvard University commit shares the team lead with five points (1G, 4A) through the first four games of the season.
The Dubuque Fighting Saints enter Friday’s matchup, the first of six total meetings between the Eastern Conference foes this season, with a pair of NHL prospects on their roster.
Forward Nils Juntorp, a Sixth Round (#188 Overall) selection of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2022 NHL Draft, has a goal and a helper through three career USHL games thus far this season.
Fighting Saints blueliner Theo Wallberg was chosen in the Sixth Round (#168 Overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators and is seeking his first USHL point.
Saturday marks the first meeting between Chicago and Madison since the Capitols captured the best-of-three 2022 Eastern Conference Semifinals series between the two teams, winning Game 1 in Madison and Game 3 in Chicago.
The Capitols are led by forward Quinn Finley who was selected by the New York Islanders in the Third Round (#78 Overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft. The University of Wisconsin commit played the 2020-2021 season with the Steel posting six points (1G, 5A) in 39 games played. A year ago, Finley totaled 29 points (12G, 17A) in 39 games in his first season with the Capitols.
Chicago takes to the road the following weekend with contests on Friday, Oct. 14 and Saturday, Oct. 15 against Team USA (U17) at USA Hockey Arena, with both games scheduled for a 6:05 pm CT puck drop.
