Fighters Sign Wide Receivers Akilian Butler and Lionell Mcconnell
October 5, 2022 – Indoor Football League (IFL) – Frisco Fighters News Release
FRISCO, Texas – The Frisco Fighters announced today that the team has signed wide receivers Akilian Butler and Lionell McConnell.
The Dallas, Texas native, Butler stands at 5-foot-10 and 182-pounds. Butler joins the Fighters after playing collegiately for Boise State from 2015-2019. “Akilian is an elusive player who we feel can play all positions on the field for us” said head coach Billy Back. “He’s big enough to be effective in the red zone and fast enough to be a problem in man coverage. He played at Boise State so he’s used to winning games and we like that here.”
Lionell McConnell graduated from Allen High School where he earned first-team all-district honors as a senior. McConnell played collegiately at Liberty University (2016-18), Abilene Christian University (2019-2020) and Colorado Mesa University (2021). The 6-foot-0, 200-pound receiver was awarded All-RMAC Honorable Mention his senior year.
“I feel sorry for whoever tries to tackle Lionell” said head coach Billy Back. “He’s a Debo Samuels type player. He’s an excellent run blocker and has the ability to run well with the ball in his hands.”
“Both Butler and McConnell are local players that we can’t let leave the great state of Texas, and why would they want to” said head coach Billy Back. “They played high school ball here and have that Texas pride about them, which we like.”
The Frisco Fighters return to the field next spring for the 2023 season. Full Squadron Memberships are on sale now. Single-game tickets will be on sale at a later date.
