Fargo Nets Last-Second OT Winner

October 15, 2022 – United States Hockey League (USHL)Sioux City Musketeers News Release

Sioux City, IA – A Joe Palodichuk goal with three seconds left in overtime lifted the Fargo Force to a 4-3 win over the Sioux City Musketeers on Friday night.

Sioux City’s special teams jumped out in a big way in the first period. Ryan Conmy scored his first USHL goal on the power play at the 7:14 mark in the first period. It was Sioux City’s first power play goal of the season.

Ben Doran then went opposite of Conmy, notching a short handed goal after creating a turnover on his own at 9:20 in the first to give Sioux City a 2-0 lead.

Fargo however flipped the game around in the second scoring three unanswered.

First was JP Turner who’s shot deflected off of a Musketeer defenseman and fluttered into the net for Fargo’s first goal of the night. Charlie Russell notched a goal to tie things up and Mac Swanson was left alone in front of the crease and made a deke to put the Force on top 3-2 at the 13:57 mark of the second period.

At the 18:08 mark of the second a Kaden Shahan shot that was initially gloved by Fargo’s, Matej Marinov was reviewed. After a couple of minutes the officials deemed that while the puck ended up in Marinov’s glove, it also crossed the goal line. The goal was Shahan’s team leading fourth of the season and tied the game 3-3 after two periods.

A third period that saw the Musketeers outshoot Fargo 11-5 yielded no change on the scoreboard sending Sioux City to their first overtime game of the season.

Despite the three on three action, the net minders did not defend many shots. Fargo took two of the three attempts and it was Joe Palodichuk with three seconds remaining before the looming shootout that ended the game with his first of the season.

Sioux City (0-3-1, 1) gains their first point of the season before taking the bus down to Omaha to face the Lancers on Saturday night with puck drop scheduled for 6:05.
