SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes will travel north for their 2022 regular season finale against Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday, Oct. 9. The match will kick off from Lumen Field at 2 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050 (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).


The Quakes defeated Minnesota United FC 2-0 at PayPal Park on Saturday. Shea Salinas, who was making the final home appearance of his 15-year MLS career, scored the game-winning goal. Last week, Salinas announced his retirement from professional soccer following the 2022 season. He played 13 seasons for San Jose and holds the club’s all-time assists record (50).

Shea Forever

The match served as the final home game for Shea Salinas, who started and played 52 minutes. He scored his first goal of the season and 22nd of his MLS career. Salinas, who ranks 10th in MLS history in career appearances, is in his 13th season with San Jose.

Snapping the Streak

The Quakes snapped a six-match winless streak vs. Minnesota (0-4-2) that dated back to the start of the 2019 season.

Finding the Net

Forward Benji Kikanović scored his sixth goal of the season and 10th of his MLS career.

Helping Hands

Jeremy Ebobisse and Paul Marie were each credited with an assist on Kikanović’s goal.

Gaining Minutes

Seventeen-year-old midfielder Niko Tsakiris made his second consecutive MLS start, playing 73 minutes.

Security in Net

Goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski earned his fourth shutout of the season and 14th of his MLS career.

Season Finale

Sunday will mark the Quakes’ last match of the regular season. San Jose also previously closed their regular season at Seattle in 2020.

Series Sweep

The Earthquakes will seek their second win against Sounders FC this year. San Jose earned a come-from-behind 4-3 victory on April 23 at PayPal Park, thanks to a hat-trick by Cristian Espinoza.

Earning Points

The Quakes have won two of their last three matches against Seattle (2-1-0).

Duelo Peruano

San Jose’s Miguel Trauco and Seattle’s Raul Ruidiaz will face each other for the first time in MLS competition. The two players are teammates with the Peru National Team.

Assist Leader

Shea Salinas, who will retire at the end of the season, leads the club in all-time assists against Sounders FC (4).

Earthquakes Legend Shea Salinas Announces Retirement Following 2022 Season

San Jose Earthquakes legend Shea Salinas announced last Wednesday his plan to retire from professional soccer following the 2022 Major League Soccer season. Salinas carries a 15-year MLS career, which includes 13 seasons in San Jose. Among all players in MLS history, Salinas ranks 10th in games played (374). He also ranks top-100 in MLS history in assists (53; 43rd) and minutes played (20,623; 83rd). He is one of just six players in MLS history with 370+ appearances and 50+ assists. He is also one of just 22 players, and 18 non-goalkeepers, to play 15+ seasons in MLS.

Earthquakes Announce 2022 Club Award Winners

The San Jose Earthquakes announced their 2022 club award winners, which includes Jeremy Ebobisse as Offensive Player of the Year and Player’s Player of the Year; JT Marcinkowski as Defensive Player of the Year; Benji Kikanović as Young Player of the Year; Tommy Thompson as the Media Good Guy; and Shea Salinas for the Andrew Bedard Spirit of the Game Award/Humanitarian of the Year.

Earthquakes to Honor Most Dedicated Members of the Quakes Family with Devotion Scarves

The San Jose Earthquakes honored 10 members of the club’s family with Devotion Scarves, an honor bestowed upon only the most devoted Earthquakes fans, staff, alumni or community members. The Quakes presented Devotion Scarves for the first time in 2015, and they are now awarded annually at the final home game of the regular season.

Earthquakes Defender Nathan Selected to MLS Team of the Week

San Jose Earthquakes defender Nathan has been selected to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Week for Week 33 following the Earthquakes’ 2-0 victory over Minnesota United FC at PayPal Park on Saturday night. Nathan, 27, started and played all 90 minutes at center back in the Quakes’ victory. He helped hold Minnesota to just two shots on target, while completing more than 90% of his passes throughout the match. It marked San Jose’s fourth shutout of 2022 and second in their last six matches.

ACADEMY UPDATE

The Quakes Academy Boys’ U15s (L 2-1) and U17s (W 2-0) faced the Portland Timbers on Sunday. The U15s and U17s will now host De Anza Force this Sunday.

The U13s and U14s will resume action when they face WSC Crush on the road on Saturday before hosting De Anza Force on Sunday.
