Earthquakes Weekly Update: October 24, 2022

October 24, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS)San Jose Earthquakes News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced viewing parties for every single matchday during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Downtown San Jose. The World Cup, which will take place this year in Qatar, begins on Sunday, Nov. 20 and concludes with the Final on Sunday, Dec. 18. Viewing parties will be held for 58 of the 64 matches throughout the competition, with select marquee matchdays featuring street closures and a robust festival atmosphere.

A look back on important moments in Quakes history that took place during the week of Oct. 24 – 30.

Oct. 29, 2019 – Earthquakes Acquire Midfielder Judson on a Permanent Transfer

The San Jose Earthquakes acquired midfielder Judson on a permanent transfer from Brazil’s Tombense on Oct. 29, 2019 following a season-long loan, signing him to a multi-year contract. Judson, 29, has tallied 87 MLS appearances (70 starts) in the last four seasons with the Quakes.

Oct. 27, 1999 – Club Renamed to the San Jose Earthquakes

The San Jose club is renamed to the Earthquakes on Oct. 27, 1999, taking on the name of San Jose’s North American Soccer League franchise from the 1970s and 1980s. The new logo and colors are also unveiled.

Oct. 26, 1996 – The Clash Makes First MLS International Tour

The San Jose Clash becomes the first MLS team to take an international tour, leaving for a 13-day trip through the People’s Republic of China during which the club splits a pair of games.

ACADEMY UPDATE

All four Quakes Academy Boys’ teams (U13s, U14s, U15s, and U17s) hosted Sacramento Republic FC at Ohlone College this past Sunday. The U14s (W 3-1) and U17s (W 3-1) extended their winning streak and remain undefeated this season. The U13s (L 3-4) and the U15s (T 1-1) also played the Northern California rivals.

Next weekend, the U15s and U17s will travel out of state to face two opponents on the road. Both teams will first take on Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday, Oct. 29, before facing the Portland Timbers on Sunday, Oct. 30. The U13s and U14s will have a bye week and resume play in November.
