Dogs Enjoy 7-2 Virgil Stampede

A full house at the Meridian Credit Union Arena in Virgil watched the IceDogs dominate Erie 7-2 tonight.
Down 1-0 early, Daniel Fitzgerald’s power play would even things up at 11:17 of the first as Brice Cooke converted a Daniel Michaud feed. It would be a 2-1 lead after one as Aidan Castle scored in his first preseason appearance.
Penalties dominated the second and this time it was Rodwin Dionicio scoring with an Erie man in the box. Pano Fimis notched his first at 15:59, likewise Daniel Michaud at 17:28 to make it 5-1 after two.
The scoring parade continued in the final period with Matthew Papais finding the back of the net at 1:05. After the Otters crept a goal closer, Pano Fimis’ blast at 14:09, his second of the game closed out the scoring.
The game hosted by Niagara on the Lake Minor Hockey was a rousing success and featured the debut of newly acquired goaltender Owen Flores. Flores was spectacular on occasion and efficient throughout, stopping 22 of 24 shots.
The IceDogs went into the game with only four D-man. Thanks to injury and suspension, Dionicio, Alec Leonard, Andrew Wysick and Ryan Vannetten all logged big minutes.
The rematch happens tomorrow night at the Meridian Centre. The puck drops at 7pm.
