Danny Vitiello Wins Week 25 Save of the Week
September 2, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Earlier today, the USL Championship announced Republic FC goalkeeper Danny Vitiello’s 73rd minute save against Oakland Roots SC on August 27 as the Fan’s Choice Save of the Week for Week 25.
As Sacramento fended off second-half pressure from their NorCal neighbors, Vitiello came up with a big-time stop to keep the club’s advantage. With a leaping denial, Vitiello sent Oakland forward Dariusz Formella’s shot over the bar for a Oakland corner kick, keeping Sacramento’s clean sheet intact.
This is Vitiello’s first Save of the Week win in four nominations this season, and the first time a Republic FC goalkeeper has taken the weekly vote since Rafael Diaz in 2020.
Vitiello and Republic FC return to the pitch this Saturday from Louisville, Kentucky, when the club takes on Louisville City FC at Lynn Family Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. PT and the match will be broadcast live on Antenna TV 40.2, FOX40.com and the FOX40 News mobile app, and streaming on ESPN+. Following the contest, the club will head south to Florida for the U.S. Open Cup final on September 7.
