Cougars Sign Nicholas McLennan to WHL Standard Player Agreement

Prince George BC – The Prince George Cougars are excited to announce that they have signed the 46th overall pick in the 2021 WHL US Priority Draft, forward Nicholas McLennan (06) to a WHL Standard Player’s Agreement.
“Nicholas is from Alaska and has Canadian roots,” said Cougars Director of Scouting Bob Simmonds. “I first saw Nick playing in Phoenix at a U15 showcase. He immediately grabbed my attention with his skill, energy, and strong compete. His coach Brian Swanson, a former Edmonton Oiler, provided strong endorsement to Nick’s coachability and character.”
McLennan, from Anchorage Alaska, is currently a member of the Southern Alberta Hockey Academy of the Canadian Sports School Hockey League U18 (CSSHL U18), where he has amassed five points in five games to kick off the season (3G-2A). Prior to his time in Southern Alberta, the 16-year-old played 40 games with Team Alaska 15U AAA, and scoring five times, and amassing 11 assists in 16 games.
“Nick had an impressive training camp with us and has started strong with the Southern Alberta Hockey Academy U18 Prep Team,” added Simmonds. “To bring a young player into the organization via the US Import Draft is a huge testament to the Cougars and WHL as a viable hockey option for US players. We are thrilled to welcome Nicholas and his family to the Cougars organization.”
The Cougars return to action this weekend, beginning tonight against the Vancouver Giants at the Langley Events Centre (7:30 PM start) and then wrap up the trip on Saturday night against the Kamloops Blazers atthe Sandman Centre (7:00 PM start).
