October 26, 2022 – Western Hockey League (WHL) – Prince George Cougars News Release
Prince George, BC – The Prince George Cougars are streaking for the first time this season! They are fresh off back-to-back victories, defeating the Vancouver Giants 5-1 and the Memorial Cup Tournament host, Kamloops Blazers, 4-3 in overtime. The Cats now return to home ice to host the undefeated Seattle Thunderbirds at the CN Centre on Friday at 7:00 PM and Saturday at 6:00 PM.
THE COUGARS:
Ten games into the 2022-23 season, the Prince George Cougars sit at a 5-5-0-0 record. The Cougars have gotten massive starts from both Koehn Ziemmer and Riley Heidt. Ziemmer currently sits fourth in WHL scoring with 17 points in 10 games (7G-10A). Heidt is not too far behind Ziemmer, with 12 points in 10 games, including four assists in his last two games. 19-year-old defenceman Hudson Thornton was a big part of the Cougars victory over the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday, scoring twice. Thornton sits tied for 3rd in WHL scoring among all defenders. Between the pipes, both Tyler Brennan and Ty Young earned victories on the Cougars most recent road trip. Brennan, drafted by the New Jersey Devils, made 22 saves in the 5-1 victory over Vancouver, and currently sits 3rd in the WHL in goals against average (1.72) and 4th in save percentage (.937). Young is coming off an incredible performance in the overtime victory over the Kamloops Blazers. The Vancouver Canucks draft pick made 45 saves on 48 shots, many of the spectacular variety, and collected second star honours.
THIS WEEKEND’S OPPONENT:
The Seattle Thunderbirds come into CN Centre winners of eight straight games to kick-off the 2022-23 season. Thunderbirds’ forward and Prince George product Nico Myatovic has had a great start to the season, registering seven points in the T-Birds’ opening eight games.
