Comets Off-Season Update

September 26, 2022 – Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)Kansas City Comets News Release

Best Wishes Absa! – The Comets announced the pro-soccer retirement of Absa Solorio due to a knee injury. Solorio has sustained a high number of knee injuries and said, “unfortunately my knees can no longer endure the grind.” Solorio appeared in nine games during his rookie season last year and the midfielder finished with a goal and two assists.

Absa continued, “It was always a dream getting to play professional soccer and the Comets gave me that opportunity. I want to thank the whole Comets organization and coaching staff for trusting me with the opportunity. Also, the fans for supporting the club through the season.”

Absa is not done with soccer however as Comets owner Brian Budzinski noted saying “We want to wish Absa well in the next chapter of his life at the United Soccer Coaches. He is going to continue to make our community a better place and I’m excited for him”

No Place Like Home – Fans will notice some changes to Cable Dahmer Arena on Opening Night November 26 as the venue has undergone some incredible updates. The City of Independence and Arena Management have outdone themselves. Over $3 million in a new parking lot resurfacing will provide more parking spaces for our fans. Over $1 Million was spent to upgrade the ribbon boards to LED lighting, and for the players, the locker rooms for both Comets players and away teams have been upgraded.

Thank you, Larry! – Longtime Cable Dahmer Arena GM Larry Hovick is retiring. Budzinski and the entire Comets organization enjoyed working with Hovick during his tenure.

“Larry has operated the arena with class and grace since the day he arrived. The arena has thrived under his leadership. The Comets will miss Larry and I personally will always be indebted to him,” said Budzinski.

Taking Larry’s place at the helm of Cable Dahmer Arena is Mike Young, a professional Budzinski is familiar with. “Mike Young is an industry veteran, with deep roots in our community. His professionalism is second to none and I’m excited to work with him again as he has some very exciting plans for Cable Dahmer Arena,” he said.

Bring The Whole Family – The Comets have seen a 17% increase in Season Ticket Sales from last year and look for that number to be close to 25% if not higher by the home opener on November 26. Recent successes on the field as well as a great slate of promotions and an exciting environment make Hot Winter Nights at Cable Dahmer Arena a must for your family!
