Chiefs Drop First Preseason Contest to Silvertips, 1-0
September 9, 2022 – Western Hockey League (WHL) – Spokane Chiefs News Release
Everett, Wash. – The Spokane Chiefs kept it close, but ultimately fell 1-0 to the Everett Silvertips in their first pre-season match-up on Friday night.
Everett controlled much of the first period, outshooting Spokane 12-5 and scoring their only goal of the game on the power play at 10:43 (Austin Roest; assists to Jackson Berezowski and Ben Hemmerling).
The Chiefs seemed to turn things around in the second period, though, by keeping the Silvertips at bay and killing two penalties.
Spokane fought back in the final period, but despite outshooting Everett 15-6, were unable to get on the board.
Rookie Owen Martin led the team in face-off wins (10/17), while 2022 first-round WHL Draft pick Chase Harrington and veteran Ty Cheveldayoff each had four shots on goal throughout the game.
Spokane struggled on the power play (0-for-3), but were able to shut down 5-of-6 Everett power plays.
Chiefs goaltender Mason Beaupit got the start in net and stopped all but one of the Silvertips’ 28 shots. Meanwhile, Braden Holt notched a 29-for-29 shutout on the other end of the ice.
Up next, the Chiefs will face the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett.
