CF Montréal to Face New York City FC on Sunday in Eastern Conference Semifinal

October 22, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS)Club de Foot Montreal News Release

MONTREAL – Following a 2-0 win over Orlando in the MLS Cup quarterfinals last Sunday, CF Montréal will now host defending MLS champion New York City FC this Sunday at Stade Saputo at 1pm (TVA Sports, TSN, BPM Sports, TSN 690) in the Eastern Conference semifinal round.

The winner of this game will advance to the Eastern Conference final against the Philadelphia Union, who shut out FC Cincinnati 1-0 on Thursday night. The match will be played on Sunday, October 30, at Subaru Park.

CF Montréal concluded its regular season with a 0-1-1 record against New York City. The Montrealers initially suffered a 4-1 setback on March 12 at Yankee Stadium in their third game of 2022, before drawing 0-0 on July 30 at Stade Saputo. Since that last meeting, Montreal has maintained a 9-1-2 record and has only one loss in its last 16 games.

This will be their third game against New York City this season and a first-ever playoff meeting between the sides. In addition, in six games at Stade Saputo, CF Montréal is winless against the New Yorkers with a 0-4-2 record.

The visitors booked their ticket to the semifinals on Monday with a 3-0 win at Citi Field against Inter Miami CF. Gabriel Pereira, Maximiliano Moralez and Hébert scored the three goals for New York. The club will look to become the fourth club in MLS history to defend its title and win a second consecutive MLS Cup. D.C. United, the Houston Dynamo and the LA Galaxy have all previously done so.
