Biasca Scores Twice in Road Loss

October 16, 2022 – Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)Halifax Mooseheads News Release

The visiting Halifax Mooseheads lost for the first time in regulation this season on Sunday when they dropped a 5-3 decision to the Moncton Wildcats. Attilio Biasca scored twice and Jordan Dumais had the other Mooseheads goal as the Halifax record slipped to 4-1-1-0 through six games.

Goalie Vincent Fillion made 29 saves to earn the win for the Wildcats and was impressive in the closing minutes of regulation by making several stops as the Moose pressured to close the gap on the scoreboard. Moncton took three penalties in the final 4:22 of the game and Halifax pushed for a goal while using six skaters versus three for the last 40 seconds but could not solve Fillion.

Biasca opened the scoring less than two minutes after the puck dropped in the first period at the Avenir Centre and had the final goal of the game on the power play at 16:44 of the third period. The Captain has nine points on the season with four goals and five assists. Defenceman David Moravec was given an assist on the first of the day for Biasca which was the first career point for the import blueliner.

Moncton’s Charles Beaudoin tied the game 1-1 as the game approached the midway mark of the first period while the Mooseheads regained the lead for the final time when Cam Whynot spotted a wide open Dumais to the left of Fillion early in the second period. That’s when the Cats started to pour it on during a wide-open middle stanza. Ettiene Morin evened the score and then set up Cole Bishop for his second career goal. Bishop, an American forward from Franklin, Tennessee, was added to the Moncton roster earlier in the week and has scored in each of his first two games. Miles Mueller and Alex Mercier scored in the third period to build the Wildcats lead to 5-2 before Biasca tacked one on for Halifax. Final shots were 32-26 in favour of the Mooseheads. Mathis Rousseau took the loss with 21 saves.

Halifax called up goalie Adam Tkacz from the Pictou County Weeks Crushers to serve as the backup to Rousseau with Brady James day-to-day with an upper body injury. James has missed the last three games. The Mooseheads also played without forward Stephane Huard Jr who is dealing with a minor neck strain, defenceman Jack Martin who missed his second game with a broken jaw and forward Zachary L’Heureux who continues to rehab a long-term upper body injury.

Next up for the Moose is a road game on Thursday night in Charlottetown at 7pm. Halifax will return to Scotiabank Centre ice for a pair of games on the weekend. The Mooseheads host Rouyn-Noranda on Saturday night at 7pm and will entertain Acadie-Bathurst on Sunday at 2pm. Tickets are on sale now at TicketAtlantic.com.
